It was between
the 1920s and 1930s that Maybach a Geman luxury
car manufacturing company was formed, named after
it's founder and designer of the first Mercedes
Benz - Wilhelm Maybach.
The company soon established itself as the
producer of extremely elegant and powerful
automobiles. After a very long break,
DaimlerChrysler is bringing the Maybach back to
life. There will be two models available - 57 or
62 - The model designations of the two luxury
Saloons are a reference to the majestic
proportions of these unique cars, the Maybach 62
stretching to 6.17 metres in length and the
Maybach 57 measuring 5.73 metres. Rear-seat
passengers are treated to the ultimate in
luxurytwo individual seats recline and
automatically extend leg and foot supports; they
are heated and ventilated, and even provide a
back massage. A TV tuner, DVD player, CD changer,
a 600-watt universal Dolby surround sound system
with 21 speakers, two wireless telephone handsets
and a refrigerator are some of the amenities
available to those privileged enough to ride in
the rear seat. And while many Maybachs will most
likely be driven by chauffeur, the driver
benefits from a number of electronic safety
devices. A twin-turbocharged V12 engine that
produces 550 horsepower can push this 7,500-lb.
vehicle to 60 mph in just over five seconds.
The Maybach Saloons reflect the expertise of
DaimlerChrysler as the world's most innovative
carmaker with an unrivalled place in automotive
history. The cars will be equipped with
21st-century vehicle technology and will be built
in a state-of-the-art Manufak-tur and conceived
with painstaking attention to detail.
The two new cars enjoy the fruits of the
technical advances, knowledge and unparalleled
experience built up over the years by Maybach's
sister-brand Mercedes-Benz in the global luxury
car segment. This has put Maybach in a position
to set new standards at the very highest eche-lon
of the passenger car market, whilst at the same
time building on the tradition of the legendary
Maybach models of the 1920s and 30s. Like
Mercedes-Benz, the Maybach brand was responsible
for producing some of the most highly-rated
vehi-cles of the time anywhere in the world. A
series of ground-breaking innovations currently
found only in Mercedes cars have been further
developed for the Maybach Saloons and are fitted
as standard. They include the Sensotronic Brake
Control (SBC™) electrohydraulic braking
sys-tem, AIRMATIC DC (Dual Control)
electronically controlled air suspension,
LINGUATRONIC voice-operated control system,
COMAND APS control and display system and TELEAID
automatic emergency call system. These high-tech
systems are complemented by the peerless
performance of the automotive technology which
has been developed specially for Maybach and
strengthens the position of the luxury car brand
in the high-end segment of the ve-hicle market.
Both the new models are fitted with the
405-kW/550-hp "Type 12" engine, which
offers more power and torque than any other
series-produced saloon power unit. They also
feature a 600-Watt sound system with Dolby
surround sound at every seat, an extremely
efficient four-zone climate control system based
on two separate air conditioning units, and
exclusive to the Maybach 62
innovative rear seats with a comfortable
reclining function.
The new engine is compelling evidence of
DaimlerChrysler's many years of experience and
wealth of expertise in the development,
construction and manufacture of twelve-cylinder
powerplants. The Maybach's 5.5-litre bi-turbo
engine develops 405 kW/550 hp and generates its
maximum torque of 900 Nm as low down as 2300 rpm.
Indeed, the "Type 12" unit produces
more power and torque than any other
series-produced saloon engine. With the benefit
of three-valve technology and highly efficient
catalytic converters, both cars meet the strict
EU-4 emission standards for 2005. This impressive
output and pulling power ensure that the new
Maybach models handle any driving situation with
the ease and authority you expect of the brand.
The Maybach 57 covers the sprint from 0 to 100
km/h in just 5.4 seconds, whilst the prodigious
torque of the engine pulls the Saloon from 60 to
120 km/h in as little as 6.5 seconds. |
